Ultrasound - Our portable machine can be used right on the farm. With the ultrasound machine we can detect pregnancy as early as 14 days post breeding, identify twins early in pregnancy, locate cysts or abnormalities in uterus and ovaries and help predict ovulation for breeding purposes. We can also check swollen tendons.
Radiographs - The portable x-ray machine can conveniently take films right on your farm and then be developed back at our clinic for quick diagnosis. We are able to provide quality radiographs of extremities and detect fractures, foreign objects, arthritis, bone spurs and help determine extent of laminitis and founder.
Lameness exams - Physical exams, flexion tests, nerve and joint blocks, radiographs, ultrasounds, and blood work can all be used to detect the source of lameness and provide us with the information we need to begin treatment.
Blood work - Often used to isolate problems in horses that "just aren't acting right" or part of a yearly check-up to insure all is well. Blood work can be a vital tool in diagnosing by providing information on organ function, muscle injury, thyroid, selenium and mineral levels, glucose, testosterone levels, pregnancy and more.
Physical exam - Regular physical exams are an important part of your horse's health care. These exams are also useful in checking new horses on the farm, older horses, horses recovering or with special medical needs, or horses entering a new level of use of exercise.
Reproductive work-ups - This consists of a complete physical exam of the reproductive organs and can also be customized according to the situation. The exam can include palpation, ultrasound, uterine cultures and biopsy, as well as blood work. A reproductive work-up is a good idea when investing in breeding a maiden mare, a mare that has not foaled in years or a mare that has had difficulty conceiving.
Artificial insemination - Once the mare is determined to be in estrus we can monitor her via rectal palpation and ultrasound to predict ovulation and the 'right' time to inseminate. This process can be an enormous time and money saver.
Surgery - We are able to perform a variety of surgical procedures here at our clinic.
